SSSP Mental Health division Spring 2011 Newsletter, Submitted by Teresa L. Scheid, Chair (2009-2011). I do hope you have all survived the awful winter and for many of us, a fairly “unruly” spring. We had lovely weather in North Carolina, but more than our share of bad storms and tornados – especially in the Raleigh area. I know tornados have plagued the Midwest and the tornado alley states in the Central regions, and our collective thoughts go out to all adversely affected. I want to remind you to vote in the election for Mental Health Division Chair, we have two excellent candidates and you will soon be asked to cast your vote. We also need student papers for the Student Paper Award. This newsletter will provide information about the 2011 Meetings. Do send me any news to include in an updated newsletter which I will have ready for distribution at the meetings. 2011 Award Ceremony and Reception. Friday, August 19th (6:30 to 7:30) at the Carnaval Court. We will have our own reception where we recognize the Awardees for the Student Paper and Greenley Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociology of Mental Health. We can run a tab until our Division monies run out and go from there. It was great fun last year and will be again this year. Do take note of our first workshop on publishing. It is Sunday Morning at 8:30 and you need to register. We do not have a space limit at this time. 2011 SSSP Mental Health Sessions Session 1: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Issues Among Military Personnel Room: Elko Date: Friday, August 19, Time: 8:30 AM – 10:10 AM Sponsors: Drinking and Drugs and Mental Health Organizer & Presider: Andrew Golub, National Development and Research Institutes, Inc.
