ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES

The SSSP offers several services and reservation oversight arrangements to facilitate attendance at the annual meeting.

Airport.   Massport’s free shuttle buses are wheelchair-lift equipped and circle airport facilities about every 20 minutes. In addition, Massport’s on-call lift-equipped van serves all of Logan Airport’s terminals, parking facilities, Water Shuttle dock, Economy Parking, and the MBTA Wood Island subway station.  To request service, call from any Public Information Booth at the arrivals level/baggage claim areas of all terminals or dial 1-617-561-1770.

When making reservations for travel, tell your travel agent, airline, hotel, and car rental agent about any specific accommodations you may require and confirm 24 hours prior to leaving. Before traveling to Logan, travelers may call Logan’s 24 hour information line: 1-800-23-LOGAN for current parking, ground transportation, and traffic information.  This help desk has TTY services daily from 6:00am –  11:00pm: 1-800-262-3335.  At Logan Airport, this number can be reached by dialing *23 (*24 for TTY) at any airport pay phone.  Public Service Representatives will assist customers with questions and concerns regarding ground transportation, airline services, concession inquiries, special needs, and TTY services. This information is found on the ADA Services web page of the Logan Airport website; visit http://www.massport.com, click on “Logan Airport,” then “Airport Programs” and then “ADA services.”

Subway. The subway “T” station closest to the Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers with accessibility features is the Park Street station, located on the junction of the Green and Red Lines about three blocks from the hotel. To walk to the hotel after exiting Park Street Station, go with the direction of traffic on the one-way Tremont Street to the end of the historic Boston Common park. Turn right on Boylston Street, continuing with Boston Common on your right. Cross Charles Street and continue on Boylston Street; the Public Garden is now on your right.  Walk to the end of the Public Garden and turn left onto Arlington Street. The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers is one block on the left.

The online map of each subway line provides a list of the subway stops and what accessibility features are available at each stop. Visit the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s website, http://www.mbta.com, click on “subway” under the “schedules and maps” menu item, and then click on the subway line of interest. Call the Office for Transportation Access with any questions: 1-800-533-6282 (V), 1-617-222-5123 (V), or 1-617-222-5415 (TTY).

Taxis.   At Logan Airport, all passengers seeking taxi transportation must report to the Taxi Dispatcher outside each airline terminal. The dispatcher will call up the next taxi from the Taxi Pool. If a wheelchair accessible taxi is required, the dispatcher will call for the next available one. Taxicab agencies in Boston that have wheelchair accessible cabs include: Boston Cab (V: 1-617-536-3200); Metro Cab (V: 1-617-242-8000) and Independent Cab (V: 1-617-426-8276).

Sessions. The SSSP will make arrangements for sign-language interpreters, sighted guides, and other communication avenues for meeting attendees, if requested. Please complete the “Accessibility Services” portion of the registration form if you require such services.

Hotel. The Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Towers has thirty five accessible sleeping rooms (all are equipped with a roll-in shower). Five rooms were reserved for our attendees (three have two double beds and two have a king bed). When making a reservation, attendees may request a wheelchair accessible room, bathroom safety equipment, closed caption television equipment, TDD access, and other resources to make their stay more comfortable. If you want the Executive Office to verify that your request(s) will be honored, please complete the “Accessibility Services” portion of the registration form. The Executive Office will confirm service arrangements 3-4 weeks before the start of the meeting.

Accessible Places of Interest. Greater Boston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau [http://www.bostonusa.com] has visitor information available, including detailed information regarding handicapped accessible activities, which they send via mail. Call 1-888-SEE-BOSTON (1-888-733-267866) to request the visitor information.  Most historic sites on the Freedom Trail are accessible, and self-guided tour guides may be purchased at the Visitor Information Center, located on the Boston Common, which is also where the Freedom Trail begins. Boston Duck Tours are equipped for wheelchair access; each vehicle is equipped to have up to two wheelchairs strapped onto the back deck.  Wheelchairs are boarded first along with one guest.  The Tours will gladly set up the wheelchair lift to assist those guests who are not in a wheelchair, but are unable to climb stairs.  Please notify a Guest Service Representative when purchasing tickets if you need services, or if you purchased your tickets via the Internet [http://www.bostonducktours.com], call 1-617-450-0068.  For more information, contact Boston’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities: visit http://www.cityofboston.gov/civilrights and click on the “Disabilities” link, call 1-617-635-2500, or email .
