2022 Poverty, Class, and Inequality Division Business Meeting (in person at SSSP Conference) Attendance: Rahim Kurwa, Joan Mazelis, Annette Mackay 1. Overview of the division, opportunities to participate, and budget. 2. Discussion of revisions to division's welcome statement. One piece of feedback is to add environment/climate change to statement. Will remind entire division to give feedback.  3. DIscussion of revisions to division's reading list. Remove "Canadian Corporate Elite." Add books by Matthew Desmond, Devah Pager, Jay McCloud, Victor Rios, Melvin Oliver & Thomas Shapiro, Kathryn Edin. Will solicit more feedback from entire division. 4. Discussion of division awards. Proposal to add an outstanding scholarship award. Question of whether it should be book or article. Book requires much more labor for a committee. Some divisions alternate between book and article between years. Question of whether it should be named after someone or themed in some way. Suggestion - Joyce Ladner Award. Will remind entire division to give feedback. 5. Discussion of possible ideas for sessions: Health Housing and Food Insecurity Workplace empowerment / Labor Public assistance / welfare reform ADA Anniversary Policing and poverty Intersectionality Pandemic Student Debt Immigration Climate Change 6. Volunteers for Harrington Award: Annette Mackey Joanie Mazelis Will solicit more volunteers (and chair) from division membership. 7. Volunteers for Student Paper Award - will solicit from division membership. 8. Proposed division budget: 600 total Student Paper Award - $200 Harrington Award - $100 (suggestion to change to a plaque - welcome feedback on this) 3rd Award - $100 Reception - $200
