Gender Division Budget (2025) DESCRIPTION: Budget Items Requested BUDGET 1 Stipend to Division Newsletter Editor (2 newsletters per year for 2 years) $200 2 Cash Award to the Division’s Graduate Student Paper Competition Winner $150 3 Plaque for Student paper honorable mention $50 4 Cash Award-$50 & Plaque-$25 to the Outstanding Scholarship Award Winner and Plaque-$25 to the Outstanding Scholarship Award Honorable Mention $100 5 Division-Sponsored Reception at the Annual Meeting $50 6 Social Media Coordinator $50 Total Budget Requested $600 4. Call for New Newsletter Editors: Our fabulous current newsletter editor Isabel Geisler has earned her PhD degree and has graduated so an announcement was made during the meeting to seek a new newsletter editor for our Gender Newsletter. Raphia Mallick, a current division member offered to serve as the incoming Newsletter editor for our newsletters. 5. Division Session Ideas – Conference Theme: Toward a Sociology of Violence * Can organize up to 10 total sessions: 3 Division-Sponsored Sessions (1 thematic); 7 Co-Sponsored * Sessions Types of Sessions: Regular Paper Sessions, Tables in the Round, Critical Dialogue Session ideas generated from the discussion: * Sexual harassment experienced by young faculty on campuses and Title IX policy compliance (Amani Awwad) * Street and sexual harassment in public spaces: Global (Raphia Mallick) * AI and Gender/ Surveillance and Gender: Global Implications– capturing race in AI, Black women’s experiences, how women are surveilled, or how surveillance is gendered (Raquel Delerme) * Increased level of technology-assisted violence/ revenge porn- different terminology- connecting to AI (Sarah Jane Brubaker) * Session on feminist perspectives on life course, aging, and how structural racism, sexism, ageism, and austerity measures affect employment trajectories intersectionally (Asmita Aasaavri) * how structural violence shapes and perpetuates intimate partner violence and limits women's mobility (Asmita) * Reproductive Justice and Gender: War/ Violence- for example, Gaza, Sudan, Congo genocide (Lauren suggested, Pallavi and Raphia) * Pallavi/ Meghna will connect with the members listed above once the 2025 themes are announced to make sure we can finalize a few sentences for the division meeting at the conference. 6. Reminders to Submit Nominations for the 2025 SSSP General Elections were made during the meeting. * Nominations for the 2025 SSSP General Election positions are due no later than 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Saturday, June 15, 2024. https://www.sssp1.org/index.cfm/pageid/2178 7. Call for Interest: Gender Division Chair and Vice Chair effective August 2025: * Pallavi and Meghna invited members to think about considering running for the Gender Division Chair and Vice-Chair position effective August 2025 (next year).
