Welcome and Opening The meeting was opened by Hans-Peter de Ruiter who welcomed attendees and introduced the agenda. 2. Updates Hans-Peter de Ruiter * Provided an update on how the recent meeting in Chicago went. Paul Luken * Reported working on a letter to the SSSP board. * Suggested that conferences could be held every other year, with alternating years being virtual. * Proposed that membership fees might cover conference attendance to eliminate additional costs. Suzanne Vaughan * Spoke about efforts to embrace members from different fields. * Highlighted that IE has a stronger presence at SSSP compared to ASA. * Appreciated the cultural contribution of Brazil to the conference and emphasized the importance of such exchanges. Katie Koralesky * Shared concerns about the bureaucratic nature of SSSP and questioned the long-term sustainability of IE within it. * Noted the lack of younger IE scholars at meetings who could step up into leadership. * Suggested IE’s natural evolution might include stronger presence in social media, development of networks across countries, and building connections with organizations such as CSA and ISA. Brenda Solomon (via Zoom chat) * Expressed her hope that IE would remain within SSSP. * Suggested IE could also be connected with the Learneds in Canada. * Reminded members of the importance of establishing IE within SSSP historically, and stressed the need to balance place-based and global connections. Marie Campbell * Noted her absence from recent SSSP meetings due to a pause in research activity. * Mentioned challenges with virtual technologies. * Emphasized the value of maintaining in-person meetings. Nancy Lopez * Updated the group on the Institutional Ethnography project she is currently working on. 3. Closing and Next Steps It was agreed that the division will meet again in February or March 2026. Action Item: Paul will draft and circulate a letter to the SSSP board with suggestions regarding conference scheduling and membership fee structures. Meeting adjourned.
