Community, Research, and Practice CRP Division Website: https://www.sssp1.org/index.cfm/pageid/1329/ Date: August 09, 2025 Time 10:30a.m. – 12:30p.m. CST Location: Logan Room, Palmer House, Chicago, IL Attendees: C. Michael Awsumb, Helen Rosenberg, Litany Esguerra, Michael A. Johnston, Paul Draus, Sarah Stanlick NOTE: We were also joined/ co-located with the Sociology, Social Work & Social Welfare Division and their members. 1. Welcome and Introductions: We began by introducing ourselves and getting a common understanding of the purpose of the meeting. We acknowledged the dual purpose of both holding our own CRP Division meeting but also coordinating with the S, SW, & SW Division. The introductions were across all of the participants in the room. 2. Sessions for 2026 Annual Meeting: We then broke out by division to discuss individual session interest within the division. After a robust discussion, we shared out across the two divisions to see where potential overlap could be found. The sessions that were discussed included the following “overlapping” sessions: a. THEMATIC: Community Approaches to Housing and Houselessness: Scholars in both divisions are working on critical approaches to housing, houselessness, street medicine, and policy. This would be a session to highlight those different approaches to addressing the challenge of houselessness. b. THEMATIC: Rural Realities, Urban Solutions: A session addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in rural communities that might be addressed through mutual aid, social programs, and community engagement that are often found in cities and high-density communities. These sessions were of interest to Clay and the Conflict Social Action and Change Division: a. CRITICAL DIALOGUE: Building Collective Wisdom through Intergenerational Scholar Sharing: A space for multiple ages and stages of SSSP scholars to come together and talk about their varied experiences, especially in response to our current geopolitical landscape and the challenges to the work that we do. b. CRITICAL DIALOGUE OR ROUNDTABLE: Co-constructing methodologies for community-engaged, participatory action research.  This year, this was a very well-received session and it is an umbrella topic that can bring together anyone doing ethical, high-quality research with community. The potential for this session is limitless. 3. Virtual Meeting: We noted that while we have a large membership for the CRP Division, that was not reflected in the attendance at this meeting. The intent is to now hold a follow-up meeting with the full membership in a virtual space to also ensure that folks are invested and have a voice in next year’s planning. 4. Adjourn.
