Meeting Minutes
7/22/2021

The meeting started promptly at 12:00 EST and we introduced ourselves at 12:05 to begin. A
link was provided to the summer newsletter and the reading list was referenced to solicit
contributions. Information was disseminated about the 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting on 8/4 — 8/7
and we reiterated that the Family Sessions would be presented on all dates. The link was
provided to the Program.

2022 planning was discussed and we recruited for Division Chair/Co-Chairs (2023 - 2025)
Newsletter Editor/Publishing Project Chair, Membership Chair, and new student members. It
was announced that self-nominations are acceptable, and that both nominees and self-nominees
must be current division members for the nominations to move forward. We also expressed a
willingness to work with someone to who chooses to join or renew if they are willing to serve.

We reminded that there would be two awards granted next year, a cash award for the Division’s
Graduate Student Paper in the amount of $150, and the Division’s Scholarly Achievement
Plaque and Award for $150.

In the next agenda item, we announced 2022 Annual Meeting information, including the theme
and location. We stated that the 2022 Call for Papers would be available in mid-October. A link was
provided to the information page.

We requested other suggestions for next year and discussed hosting a reception and sponsoring a
tour of sight-seeing areas of Los Angeles. We discussed getting more information on what would
be involved in creating a special edition of Social Problems, and then talked about co-sponsoring
workshops with Sports and Delinquency and Disability Divisions. We are interested in
sponsoring 1) family violence, 2) family formation workshops next year, and also hosting a
critical dialogue in family politics and health.

Finally, we asked if anyone had any recently published work, news related to research, awards or
announcements to share? We suggested that they send announcements, articles, reviews of
books/articles of interest to us so that we can publish it in our next newsletter. We also suggested
that they send it to the Administrative Office for placement in the Society’s website.
