Efforts to mitigate these issues include exploring virtual options for conferences, reducing the number of sessions at the conference, and conducting a more targeted membership drive. It was suggested that we consider hosting virtual seminars that are made available to the public, such as providing continuing education units (CEUs) for professionals. These seminars would require approval from both SSSP and CEU-approving bodies (e.g., NASW, AAMFT). For low overhead costs, seminars could provide revenue for SSSP by charging a fee for participating professionals and offering free or reduced fees for SSSP members. Thank you! We want to hear from you! Fostering more cohesion and better communication Utilizing the division newsletter to promote upcoming sessions as well as provide a catalog of past sessions and research. The newsletter can be a great resource for both networking and providing valuable information, especially to preserve the critical ethos that has characterized SSSP since its founding. We can create opportunities for more camaraderie at conferences by scheduling more frequent Zoom meetings throughout the year, or by encouraging meeting together in person at specific events during the annual conference. We can better recognize that SSSP members comprise more than academics and graduate students; the contributions and insights of professionals and activists are part of what makes SSSP valuable. Identifying place-based opportunities for conferences, forming local ties and experts to participate and present at conferences will make the experience more meaningful for all.
