Minutes of the Annual Business Meeting of the SSSP Health, Health Policy, and Health Services Division
July 12, 2021

Attendance: Kathleen Abrahamson, Virginia Berndt, Jennifer Bulanda, William Cabin, Stephanie 
Kirkland, Lilla Pivnick

Introductions

Budget
*	Unanimous approval of the proposed 2021-2022 budget.

2021 Annual Meeting
*	Members asked about information for the 2021 annual meeting platform and session links.  Bill 
will communicate with Michelle about plans/platform for the upcoming meeting.

2022 Meeting
*	Discussion of potential session topics and co-sponsored sessions for next year’s meeting. 
Members with additional ideas can add them to the Google doc circulated to the Division 
membership.

Division opportunities
*	Newsletter
o	Discussion of newsletter content.
o	Request for volunteers to author a one-page segment for the upcoming newsletter (Bill 
Cabin volunteered).
o	A call for announcements that members would like to have included in the next 
newsletter will be circulated. 
o	Discussion of a monthly email announcements format versus the traditional biannual 
PDF newsletter format.
*	Student Paper Award Committee
o	Lilla Pivnick and Bill Cabin volunteered to serve for 2022.
*	Outstanding Scholarship Award Committee
o	Kathleen Abrahamson and Virginia Berndt volunteered to serve for 2022.

Other business
*	Discussion of timeline for decisions about next year’s sessions and session organizers. This will 
be discussed further at the Council of Chairs meeting on July 14, and we likely have until 
September to make final decisions.  Members willing to organize a session can indicate their 
interest on the Google doc circulated to the Division membership.
*	Discussion of potential synergy with the Medical Sociology section of ASA.
*	Discussion of increasing our social media presence (Virginia Berndt volunteered as a potential 
point person for further social media discussions/initiatives).
