The Society for the Study of Social Problems 68th Annual Meeting is coming up right around the corner in August. The preliminary schedule is now up on SSSP’s website (https://www.sssp1.org/file/2018AM/Preliminary_Program_6-22-18.pdf), but I would like you to build two important events into your meeting calendar now: CJDD business meeting. When? Saturday, August 11th from 10:30 AM – 12:10 PM (Liberty Ballroom, A). Did you know? At this business meeting we team brainstorm and plan all of our sessions for the next annual conference. If you have ever thought, “I really wish the CJDD would have a session that focuses on ‘this,’” now is your chance to build that into our CJDD 2019 programming by coming to our business meeting. With that said, I know people do end up with scheduling conflicts. SSSP’s annual meeting is a busy time for all. Hence, if you have a conflict but would like to see a specific session built into the CJDD 2019 program, please e-mail me so I can share your ideas (buddkm@MiamiOH.edu). Graduate students: This is also an excellent time for you to join us! Not only do you get to meet more CJDD members, the business meeting provides many opportunities to get involved with our division. You are the next generation of leaders so we hope to see you there! Division-sponsored reception. When? Saturday, August 11 from 7:45 PM – 8:45 PM (Independence Ballroom, Mezzanine Level). Did you know? Many of the divisions pitch in money from our budgets, including the CJDD, to help support this event for our division members. Please do attend, have a fabulous time, and celebrate our shared division and SSSP mission! I will wrap up with saying, looking forward to seeing everyone in Philadelphia as we delve into “Abolitionist Approaches to Social Problems.” All my best, Kristen Kristen M. Bunting is a doctoral candidate and National Institute on Drug Abuse predoctoral trainee at the University of Kentucky. Recently recognized by the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) with a prestigious Scholar Award for her “ability to make a significant contribution to her field,” her research examines barriers to securing employment, accessing health care, and receiving appropriate substance abuse treatment among criminal justice involved populations. Her dissertation examines important reentry and health outcomes among polysubstance using individuals following their release from prison. Interested in quantitative methodologies, Amanda uses latent class analysis in her dissertation to answer the question: How does the different poly-substance use behavior among formerly incarcerated individuals who use opioids differentially impact reentry outcomes?
