Preparations are underway for਍ഀ our annual meetings in San Francisco. These meetings promise਍ഀ to be enlightening, full of our usual passion, and a great਍ഀ experience for all. Please set some time aside to attend some of਍ഀ the sessions which our division has sponsored or co-sponsored.਍ഀ These are listed below for your ease. Thank you to all the਍ഀ session organizers for their hard work, as well as the਍ഀ presenters.਍ഀ As I pass off the torch during these meetings, I would਍ഀ like to thank you all for your support and enthusiasm while I਍ഀ have been division chair. I have appreciated the opportunity to਍ഀ serve this division and look forward to continuing to਍ഀ participate under the leadership of Daina Harvey. ਍ഀ Meanwhile, check out the sessions below. There is also a਍ഀ call for mentors below. Please take a look and see if you are in਍ഀ a position to engage in this program - a program which greatly਍ഀ enhances the experience of graduate students at the SSSP਍ഀ meetings and which provides ways for them to grow as਍ഀ scholars and as participants in our research communities.਍ഀ ਍ഀ ਍ഀ ਍ഀ ਍ഀ ਍ഀ Sessions Sponsored and Co-Sponsored by the E&T Division਍ഀ ਍ഀ Note: all events are from the preliminary schedule and subject to change. It was released at the Green Schools National Conference in March and is਍ഀ intended to be a complement to the Green Ribbon Schools criteria and a resource to਍ഀ guide schools in setting the cultural conditions needed to support sustainability efforts.਍ഀ ਍ഀ Based on years of research by the Institute for the Built Environment, The Whole-School਍ഀ Sustainability Framework illustrates how whole-school sustainability requires districts਍ഀ to not only change practices and policies but also culture, and this framework helps਍ഀ school leaders and community advocates to focus in on those necessary cultural shifts. Call for Participants: Advancing Groundwater Restoration Through Qualitative Analysis:਍ഀ What Practitioners and Stakeholders Care About and Why਍ഀ ਍ഀ Doing research on groundwater contamination, or have in the past? As you know, SSSP offers a Meeting Mentor Program designed to਍ഀ facilitate interaction between new members or graduate students and meeting veterans਍ഀ at the Annual Meeting. Mentors provide valuable knowledge about the SSSP and਍ഀ Annual Meeting activities as well as insight into their own experiences as scholar਍ഀ activists. It is recommended that pairs communicate prior to or early in the meeting, so਍ഀ mentees can get the most out of this program. Although this mentoring program is not਍ഀ designed to be a long-term commitment, the conversations and connections made਍ഀ through the program have lasting effects for both mentors and mentees.਍ഀ We have received a high response from students and new members seeking਍ഀ mentors. Unfortunately, we have a low response from members volunteering to serve਍ഀ in this role. ਍ഀ We know you are very busy at the meeting and have little spare time. But if you਍ഀ are willing to spend a few minutes speaking with a student or newcomer, making them਍ഀ feel welcome, and offering suggestions for making the most of our conference, that਍ഀ would be great. Please take a few minutes and complete the online meeting mentor਍ഀ program application form no later June 30 at http://sssp1.org/index.cfm/pageId/1092.਍ഀ Online pre-registration ends on July 15. Visit਍ഀ http://www.sssp1.org/index.cfm/pageid/926/fuseaction/ssspconf.portal ਍ഀ to register online, if you haven’t already. Thanks in advance.
