He਍ഀ will be taking over at the meetings this summer in San਍ഀ Francisco. We are happy to welcome him into the role. Below਍ഀ is a brief bio and message from him.਍ഀ ਍ഀ ਍ഀ I am very happy to be elected as਍ഀ chair—and to those of you਍ഀ whose votes I bought—the check਍ഀ is in the mail. I am currently an਍ഀ Assistant Professor at the਍ഀ College of the Holy Cross in਍ഀ Worcester, Massachusetts. I’m਍ഀ finishing up a book based on my਍ഀ dissertation research where I਍ഀ looked at how residents of the਍ഀ Lower Ninth Ward in New਍ഀ Orleans were moving on from਍ഀ the long-term aftermath of਍ഀ Hurricane Katrina and the਍ഀ federal levee failures. Most of਍ഀ my research and teaching interests fall towards਍ഀ society-environment relations and how communities negotiate਍ഀ and make sense of environmental peril.਍ഀ ਍ഀ I have been an active member of SSSP and the division since਍ഀ graduate school and I look forward to making it my਍ഀ professional home now that I’m at Holy Cross. We have a਍ഀ terrific division and I would like to encourage anyone who has਍ഀ ideas on how to make it better to contact me. Our divisional਍ഀ meeting and our newsletter offer a great opportunity for਍ഀ members to get involved in not only E&T, but SSSP as well, so I਍ഀ look forward to meeting many of you in San Fran in August.਍ഀ ਍ഀ Announcements:਍ഀ ਍ഀ New Publications਍ഀ ਍ഀ Vol. 21 of Research in Social Problems and Public Policy is now available, honoring Bill਍ഀ Freudenburg. This is published by Emerald and more information is available at:਍ഀ http://books.emeraldinsight.com/display.asp?K=9781781907344਍ഀ This work is edited by Susan Maret. ਍ഀ True to the nature of the Gedenkschrift, this commemorative publication celebrates the਍ഀ work of sociologist Dr. William Freudenburg, one of the founding editors of RSPPP and਍ഀ Dehlsen Professor, University of California, Santa Barbara. Chapters include personal਍ഀ reminiscences as well as research that reflect and build on Dr. Freudenburg's theories਍ഀ including recreancy, bureaucratic slippage, his research in environmental disasters,਍ഀ climate change natural resources, technological risk and Scientific Certainty਍ഀ Argumentation Method (SCAM). Government transparency, power and control are also਍ഀ among the topics discussed.਍ഀ ਍ഀ Ryan Wishart and R. Jamil Jonna have put together a select bibliography of works਍ഀ across several disciplines drawing on the Metabolic Rift perspective in environmental਍ഀ sociology. It available on the web here:਍ഀ https://monthlyreview.org/commentary/metabolic-rift਍ഀ It is also included below as a handy quick reference. Thank you to them for making it਍ഀ available to us.਍ഀ ਍ഀ Interpreting Rurality is a new multidisciplinary book published by Routledge which਍ഀ explores different conceptions on the term "rural" noting that definitions of rural are not਍ഀ exact, leaving room for varied interpretations to have a significant impact on the਍ഀ meanings conveyed in different areas of research and across different economic, social਍ഀ and spatial contexts. Environment and Technology Division member Angus Nurse਍ഀ contributed a chapter which explores how rural crime is defined differently in legal and਍ഀ policy debates and its enforcement is affected by philosophical differences on the nature਍ഀ of rural crime and its enforcement requirements.਍ഀ Details of the book are at:਍ഀ http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9780415696722/#contents਍ഀ Below is the flyer with a discount code.਍ഀ ਍ഀ Janet A.
