Society for the Study of Social Problems: Family Division Fall 2021 Newsletter Co-Chairs Emmie JoAnne Cochran-Jackson and Amanda Catherine (Rin) Ferraro Welcome Message Dear Members of the Family Division, Happy December everyone! 2021 has been a year of firsts, but we're so appreciative to all our Division members for keeping the Division thriving during these challenging times and for contributing to the success of SSSP's first-ever Virtual Annual Meeting! As Co-chairs, we would like to quickly introduce ourselves. The 2020-2022 Co-chair is Dr. Emmie Cochran-Jackson (c_emmie@bellsouth.net), a sociology lecturer at Georgia Gwinnett College. The 2021-2023 Co-chair is Rin Ferraro (ferraro@ou.edu), a Sociology Ph.D. student at the University of Oklahoma. We are so thankful for everyone's involvement this year. We admire your resilience through a changing and often virtual year and are excited to announce the sessions that the Family Division will be offering in the 2022 Annual Meeting. Papers should be of a professional quality and may relate to any aspect of the sociology of the family. Submitting authors must be enrolled as graduate students at the time of their submission. To be eligible, a paper may not be published, accepted, or under review for publication. All papers must be student authored; they may be jointly authored by one or more students, but may not be co-authored with a faculty member or non-student. Papers should be no more than 25 pages in length, including all notes, references, and tables. Please e-mail papers and a cover letter specifying that the paper is to be considered for the Family Division Graduate Student Paper Competition to the Division Co-Chair Rin Ferraro at ferraro@ou.edu. In addition, authors are required to submit their papers through the annual meeting Call for Papers online system. Submissions must be received no later than midnight on January 15, 2022. The winner and any runners-up will be announced in Spring 2022. The first-place winner will receive a $150 cash stipend, a plaque of recognition, student membership, conference registration, and an opportunity to present her/his paper at the upcoming SSSP meetings in Los Angeles. Please include your name, institutional affiliation, and contact information in the body of your e-mail. Also indicate that your paper is being submitted for the Family Division Graduate Student Paper Competition in the subject line of your e-mail.
