The purpose of this newsletter is to update you on some items of interest and encourage you to submit more of such items to me on an ongoing basis. SSSP 2014 Annual Meeting The call for papers is on the SSSP website. Please submit your proposals and encourage your colleagues and students to do so as well. Start thinking about nominees for the Michael Harrington Award and encourage students to apply for our PCI student awards. Honors & Awards Chris Rhomberg (Fordham University) received the 2013 Distinguished Scholarly Monograph Award from the American Sociological Association's section on Labor and Labor Movements for his book, The Broken Table: The Detroit Newspaper Strike and the State of American Labor (Russell Sage, 2012). His article, "Class and Collective Action: Writing Stories about Actors and Events," will appear in Sociología Histórica (No. 2, 2013) in a special issue on the 50th anniversary of the publication of E.P. I am doing a chapter as is Darryl Wieland and colleagues from Duke. I need three more book chapters, ideally on current Medicaid issues. Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich has created both a film and website which are excellent interactive teaching tools.
