SSSP Poverty, Class, and Inequality Division Fall 2022 Newsletter Contents Message from the Chair Volunteers Needed! SSSP PCID Awards 2023 Conference Sessions General SSSP Announcements Member News ________________ Message from the Chair ________________ Dear Poverty, Class, and Inequality Division members, I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying the end of the fall term! There’s a lot to cover as the year wraps up – from our division’s revised homepage to our new award, upcoming conference, and finally, service opportunities in the division. Perhaps most importantly, we need to elect a new chair for the 2023-2025 term. Please take a moment to nominate someone (or self-nominate!) for this position! If you’re interested in serving, or if you’d like to nominate someone, please let me know at rahim.kurwa@gmail.com. Once nominations are in, the administration will ask for a short candidate statement (2-3 sentences) and will administer the election. I’ll help the new chair transition in and provide detailed division records and information on how to perform the chair duties. Let me put in a word of encouragement for anyone on the fence about this role. Serving as chair has been a wonderful experience, the workload is manageable, and there’s a ton of support from the prior chair and the SSSP administration. I feel as though I’ve been able to make a few lasting contributions to the division while also getting to know some of the amazing people in this division and in SSSP more broadly. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone in a position to consider it. With that out of the way, I want to highlight some other important news. First, we have a revised division homepage that updates old text and adds additional information for members. Second, we have added a third award to the division, for an outstanding article. Third, we need volunteers to serve on award committees. And fourth, in the newsletter you’ll see our sessions for the 2023 conference in Philadelphia. The rest of the newsletter will cover all these items, and the newsletter will end with member news. Finally, I want to thank everyone who, over the past year, has given their time to the division through service in committees, session organizing, and more. Your efforts make the division thrive. Warmly, Rahim Kurwa ________________ Volunteers Needed! ________________ PCID has the following service opportunities: 1.
