Title: The Society for the Study of Social Problems Announces 2024 Conference in Montréal

Meeting Dates: August 9-11, 2024
Location: Le Centre Sheraton Montréal Hotel, Montréal, Canada
Program Theme: “Toward a Sociology of Violence”

The Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) has unveiled plans for its upcoming annual conference, scheduled to take place in Montréal from August 9-11, 2024.

This event will gather scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners to move beyond individual-level solutions to the social problem of violence. Participants explore root causes that create the context in which violence and calls for violence flourish and analyze how systemic change can reduce violence. Highlights include a panel that presents data on mass violence and post-conflict situations in several countries in order to draw broader lessons for reducing violence in a world in which violence is increasingly common. In addition to the program theme, other presentations will address topics like racism, gender and sexuality issues, complex family dynamics, and more.

The conference will address contemporary social challenges through interdisciplinary dialogue, focusing on fostering solidarity across diverse communities. Participants will engage in critical discussions aimed at advancing social change and inclusivity.
