Position Title: Editor

Institution: The Sociological Quarterly
Job Description: The MSS seeks an individual or team with a distinguished scholarly record and previous editorial experience. Past experience can come in the form of a previous journal editorship, deputy/associate editorship, or book review editorship. The applicant should possess strong organizational and management skills, the ability to work well with others, and a commitment to the mission of The Sociological Quarterly. All members of the MSS are encouraged to apply and/or to nominate candidates. Preference will be given to applicants within the nine states that make up the MSS region - Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The successful editor candidate will be appointed by the MSS President with consent of the board upon recommendation of the Publications Committee for a four-year, non-renewable term.

Responsibilities include:

  • Soliciting, reviewing, and making decisions about all manuscript submissions.
  • Oversee the production of the four annual issues of the journal (7-9 articles in each issue)
  • Monitor and ensure each articles make it through peer review via ScholarOne.
  • Ensure submissions are in line with professional standards (i.e., proper methods, format, grammar).

The new editor and the outgoing co-editors will work together to negotiate a date for the new editorial office to open no later than March 1, 2024. The first issue produced by the new editor will be the Winter issue of 2025, Vol. 66, Number 1.

Additional Support from the MSS:

  • Annual stipend for the editor
  • Travel funds
  • At least one course release buy-out
  • Half-time managing editor

One of the expectations of the MSS is that the editor’s host institution will also provide support which might come in the form of additional faculty release time, summer salary, office space, utilities, the use of computers and other office equipment, support for student workers, and/or other basic expenses. The precise scope of editorial office support will be negotiated by the finalist, the finalist’s institution, and the Publications Committee. 

Submit a C.V., letter outlining qualifications, experience, and vision for The Sociological Quarterly. The review process will begin March 1, 2023. Position Title: Postdoctoral Scholar

The office directly supports clinical and educational scholarly projects within BSOM, provides education and consultation on project methodology and dissemination of findings, and fosters scholarly collaboration within BSOM and ECU Health, a not-for-profit, 1,447-bed hospital system serving more than 1.4 million people across 29 predominantly rural counties in eastern North Carolina

Job Duties: The Postdoctoral Scholar reports to the Assistant Dean of Clinical and Educational Scholarship at the BSOM Department of Academic Affairs. This position will participate in the design, conduct, and dissemination of clinical research projects, and contribute towards building excellence in rural health and health equity research at BSOM and ECU Health. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have opportunities to collaborate with BSOM faculty, staff, and students, as well as clinicians and administrators at ECU Health. Projects assigned to this position may include research on increasing access to health care for rural and disadvantaged patient populations; research on addressing social determinants of health within clinical and community-based contexts; research on improving healthcare quality and the patient experience for patients from minoritized and historically disadvantaged groups; and evaluation of clinical practice changes and quality improvement programs through an equity lens. Scholars are expected to demonstrate compliance with established guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training. 

Minimum Education/Experience: English Proficiency Excellent written and oral communication skills [PhD, MD, DDS, DMD or a combination of these degrees] Doctoral degree in a discipline related to the field assigned. ABD (all but dissertation) candidates will be considered if doctoral degree will have been conferred prior to the position start date. Experience with quantitative research in areas related to health equity is required. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Experience with peer-reviewed publication in the health sciences. Publication or presentation of research projects related to rural health, health equity, population health, health services, patient outcomes, or health professions education. Experience with qualitative research or mixed-methods research. Training or experience in advanced quantitative methods. Training or experience in program evaluation or interventional study design.

Job Description: Located in Portland, Oregon, Lewis & Clark College is a small liberal arts college with 2,100 undergraduates. We invite applications for a 2-year post-doctoral position in Data Science. The Data Science program at Lewis & Clark consists of an undergraduate minor supported by an interdisciplinary group of faculty members. This position will collaborate with existing faculty to elevate the data science program by offering enriching introductory and upper division data science courses. Candidates must be committed to supporting the development of an innovative Data Science program in a liberal arts undergraduate setting, and to excellence in teaching and scholarship. We will consider candidates who have completed or are on track to complete a PhD in any applied field (Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities) who have advanced training in data science. The successful candidate must be able to teach Introduction to Data Science, an intermediate data science course with an applied emphasis, and an upper division course in an area of their expertise, for example applied statistical modeling. We are especially interested in candidates who will develop courses that further connect our data science program to its mission of promoting the usage of data science for the social good. Position Title: Visiting Assistant Professor
