Call for Books for the 2020 Annual Meeting’s Author Meets Critics Sessions Nomination

We are pleased to announce the Call for Books for the 2020 Annual Meeting’s Author Meets Critics Sessions. This year’s Program Co-Chairs, Tsedale Melaku and Barbara Katz Rothman, will select two books to be featured on the program.

Author Meets Critic Sessions are designed to bring authors of recent books considered to be important contributions to the study of social problems and the advancement of social justice together with discussants chosen to provide different viewpoints. Only books published in 2018 or 2019 are eligible for nomination. Only current SSSP members may submit nominations; self-nominations are not accepted. At the discretion of the Program Co-Chairs, the Committee may invite authors whose work is particularly relevant to the year’s theme, “Bringing the Hope BACK in: Sociological Imagination and Dreaming Transformation.”

Author Meets Critics Session proposals must be submitted to the Program Co-Chairs by December 31, 2019.

Proposals must include:

  1. Title of Book (include publisher and publication date)
  2. Brief statement (about 200 words) about the book’s importance to the study of social problems and the advancement of social justice in general, as well as the relevance of the book for the annual meeting’s theme
  3. Session Organizer(s)—authors cannot serve as session organizers
  4. A list of potential critics, including their e-mail addresses
