The deadline to apply for the 2024 Lee Student Support Fund was March 15, 2024. Check back this fall for the 2025 application procedures. See below for general information.

HISTORY

In recognition of Al Lee’s commitment to social justice and his history of critical contributions to the Society for the Study of Social Problems, SSSP established the Lee Student Support Fund to facilitate conference attendance by undergraduate and graduate students. Thirty awards of $500 each will be granted for travel support. Travel support may include transportation costs, luggage fees, hotel, per diem, or other costs not associated with airfare, railway, or driving expenses between the applicant’s university and conference location.

Awards are allocated by the committee. In addition to need, preference will be given to students who are ABD and/or nearing completion of their Ph.D. The committee may recognize the Society’s commitment to diversity, the applicant’s commitment to scholar-activism, and interdisciplinary work among other factors.

Applicants may only apply to one travel fund. Only students can apply to this fund and applicants must have some sort of formal role at the conference (e.g., presenter, discussant, presider, session organizer, division chair).
