Upcoming GRNECA Talk by SSSP Member Professor Onwubiko Agozino (Virginia Tech)
The Global Research Network on Economic Crime in Africa (GRNECA) invites you to attend an online talk on Monday, May 18 from 10:00–11:00 a.m. ET (4:00–5:00 p.m. Johannesburg time) featuring Professor Onwubiko Agozino of Virginia Tech.
Professor Agozino will present:
“Reparative Justice and Penal Abolitionism: From Economic Crimes to Crimes in General”
Abstract
Economic crimes committed by powerful states and corporations are often resolved through reparative rather than punitive forms of justice. Corporations and states are rarely subjected to imprisonment or capital punishment; at most, an individual official may occasionally face prosecution while corporations may receive temporary sanctions or suspensions. Drawing on the example of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Professor Agozino will examine reparative justice approaches and the broader movement away from punitive models within criminology.
About GRNECA
GRNECA was founded in 2025 following a workshop held in Johannesburg. The network brings together academics, practitioners, and other researchers interested in studying and discussing economic crime, fraud, trickery, and related justice responses across Africa.

SSSP Virtual Poster Mini-Conference
The Program Committee is pleased to announce our first Virtual Poster Mini-Conference, to be held March 27, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 (Eastern Time).
We have heard from so many of our members who would like more virtual events to increase professional development, networking, and collaboration opportunities among our members who are not able to attend the in-person meeting, so we hope that this is a positive step in that direction.
Because SSSP-hosted virtual events are offered as a member benefit, all participants – including presenters and attendees – must be 2026 SSSP members and register for the event. View the flyer.
For questions, please contact Dr. Atticus M. Wolfe, Program Committee at awolfe@agnesscott.edu.
