Apply for the SSSP mentor program, deadline June 30

The SSSP Mentoring Program is designed to facilitate interaction between members of SSSP. The primary objective of this program is to facilitate connections between mentors and mentees for at least one year (summer 2024–summer 2025). If you are interested in serving as a mentor or being matched with a mentor, complete the online application.

2023 C. Wright Mills Award Finalists

The committee reviewed 108 nominated books to select the seven finalists. The winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, August 10 from 5:45pm-7:00pm (Eastern Time). All finalists will be recognized on the SSSP website and at the Awards Ceremony. 

To an outstanding degree, each of the finalists met the criteria for the award: 

  • Critically addresses an issue of contemporary public importance
  • Brings to the topic a fresh, imaginative perspective
  • Advances social scientific understanding of the topic
  • Displays a theoretically informed view and empirical orientation
  • Evinces quality in style of writing
  • Explicitly or implicitly contains implications for courses of action

Membership and Outreach Spotlight: Dr. Teresa Irene Gonzales

Congratulations to all of the folks who have completed their education journey! As we wrap up the academic year and move into the summer months, we encourage everyone to take time for rest, relaxation, and collective joy. The Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) condemns the actions taken by police agents and university leaders in response to pro-Palestinian campus protests around the country. We unequivocally support academic freedom, free speech, and the right to peaceful protest.
