Meeting Dates: August 8–10, 2025

Location: Palmer House Hilton, Chicago, IL

Program Theme: Insurgent Sociology in a Time of Crises

The Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) is proud to announce its 75th Annual Meeting, which will be held August 8–10, 2025, at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

This year’s theme, Insurgent Sociology in a Time of Crises, invites critical engagement with overlapping global and local struggles amidst multiple crises, including global capitalism, war, militarism, the climate crisis, the assault on critical studies, and more. This year’s theme, Insurgent Sociology, reflects the Society’s enduring dedication to transformative scholarship and justice-driven practice.

Conference sessions include critical dialogues, author-meets-critics panels, workshops, and sessions on insurgent theory, decolonial practice, and public scholarship. One featured panel, Resistance and Survival, brings together Chicago-based organizers to reflect on intensifying global crises and share how their local work responds to state violence, genocide, and the erosion of democratic processes through cross-movement dialogue and collective resistance. The program features presentations by activists, academics, and students committed to advancing justice through engaged sociological work.
