The deadline to apply for the Travel Fund Awards is March 15, 2026.

The Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) has established four travel funds to assist members in attending the 2026 Annual Meeting. All applicants must be current SSSP members at the time of application. Click here to join or renew your membership

Applicants may only apply to one travel fund:

• Erwin O. Smigel Award – For unemployed and underemployed sociologists.
• Lee Scholar Support Fund – For non-U.S. based international scholars from politically, economically, and culturally oppressed groups in countries not considered part of the Global South.
• Lee Student Support Fund – For undergraduate and graduate students. A student is defined as someone who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral program at an institution of higher learning. International students must apply to the Lee Student Support Fund. 
• Transnational Initiatives Fund – For international scholars from the Global South as defined by the American Sociological Association.
