Agenda for Social Justice: Solutions 2016 is now available!
Dear Colleagues,
The Justice 21 Committee of the SSSP is pleased to announce the publication of the volume Agenda for Social Justice: Solutions 2016, which represents a continuing effort by our professional society to nourish a "public sociology" that will be easily accessible and useful to policy makers, academics, activists, concerned citizens, and students. It is also a way to give something back to the people and institutions that support our scholarly endeavors. We hope that you find it helpful in your challenging work of crafting successful solutions to contemporary social problems. The agenda contains 12 chapters covering a variety of pressing social problems as follows:
- “Campus Sexual Assault: Addressing a Systemic Social Problem in the United States,” Kristen M. Budd, Alana Van Gundy, Glenn W. Muschert, and Rose Marie Ward
- “Missing Rights and Misplaced Justice for Sex Workers in the United States,” Crystal A. Jackson and Jennifer J. Reed
- “Factory Farming: Impacts and Potential Solutions,” Ryan Gunderson, Diana Stuart, and Brian Petersen
- “Solutions to the Social Problem of Food Insecurity in the United States,” Leslie Hossfeld, Brooke Kelly, and Julia Waity
- “After Health Care Reform: Enduring Challenges for Justice in the American Health Care System,” Jennifer Roebuck Bulanda
- “Global Labor Social Justice on University Campuses,” Michelle Christian
- “When Home Disappears: How the Rise in Urban Foreclosures and Evictions Threatens Families,” Obie Clayton and Barbara Harris Combs
- “The Racial Implications of Immigration Policy,” Trenita B. Childers and San Juanita García
- “Gun Violence in the U.S.: Prevalence, Consequences, and Policy Implications,” Kellie R. Lynch, Tony P. Love, and Claire M. Renzetti
- “American Prisons: Consequences of Mass Incarceration,” Alana Van Gundy
- “The Surprising Link between Sustainability and Social Justice,” Amitai Etzioni

This project is an effort on the part of scholars to disseminate findings in social problems research as widely as possible, at zero cost of the SSSP. Net revenue generated by the project goes to support the activities of the SSSP and the Justice 21 Committee, in pursuit of social justice.
We suggest that the volume can be an outstanding and cost-effective source of supplementary readings in many social problems-related courses. It is the hope of the Justice 21 Committee that all members will enjoy the volume and find it useful. Please help spread the word regarding the availability of this new volume.
Sincerely,
Glenn W. Muschert
SSSP Secretary & Chair, Justice 21 Committee
