Call for Nominations - 2016 General Election

Nominations are open for candidates to run in the 2016 General Election. We will be electing a President-Elect, a Vice-President Elect, regular and student members of the Board of Directors, members of the Budget, Finance, and Audit Committee, Committee on Committees, Editorial and Publications Committee, and the Membership and Outreach Committee. Please consider nominating a colleague or yourself for one of these offices by completing the online nomination form.

Nominations should include a brief description of the nominee's SSSP involvement and other relevant experiences. The Nominations Committee will meet at the Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. All nominations should be submitted prior to Monday, June 15, 2015. The Board of Directors will approve the slate of candidates for the 2016 General Election on August 23, 2015. If you have any questions, please contact Shannon M. Monnat, Chairperson, Council of the Divisions.

Note: If a SSSP member is interested in serving on an appointed committee, the member may select the appropriate committee when renewing membership. The Administrative Office will give your name to the Committee on Committees for consideration.

The Call for Papers for the SSSP 2015 Annual Meeting is now live!

The Call for Papers for the SSSP 2015 Annual Meeting is now live!  View the Student Paper Competitions and Outstanding Scholarship Awards announcement and submit a paper or nominate a book, article, or scholar!  We are very excited about our 65th Annual Meeting, to be held August 21-23, 2015 at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel in Chicago, IL.  This year’s theme selected by President Marlese Durr is Removing the Mask, Lifting the Veil: Race, Class, and Gender in the 21st Century.

We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!

Nominations for the 2014 C. Wright Mills Award are now open

Nominations are now open for the 2014 C. Wright Mills Award.  Members of the Society are encouraged to submit letters of nomination for this prestigious annual award.  Self nominations are acceptable.  Edited volumes, textbooks, fiction and self-published works are not eligible.  Eligible books must be first edition (not a reprint or later edition) and bear a 2014 copyright.  The C. Wright Mills Award, established in 1964, is made annually and carries with it a stipend of $500 for the author(s) of the winning book. The deadline for the 2014 award nominations is December 15, 2014.
