Social Problems Latest Virtual Issue: Modern Abolitionist Struggle
The latest virtual issue from Social Problems looks into how modern abolitionists approach social problems,
https://academic.oup.com/socpro/pages/abolitionist_vi. While examining the factors that perpetuate racial inequality, the articles are connected thematically through problems such as colorism, segregation, resource deprivation, at the same time discussing possible solutions to break these cycles.
The included articles are freely accessible online until April 1, 2019 and are accompanied by an introduction from the virtual issue editor, Irina Chukhray, stating:
“The 21st century deals with numerous variations of modern slavery. The call to end slavery should ideally be an outdated need. The call to recognize the ways in which social structure divides and disadvantages communities by race should no longer be necessary.”

Resolution Letters: Just Transition to Renewable Energy with Justice for Workers and Frontline Communities
Each year, the SSSP membership proposes resolutions to publicly declare their sentiments on social justice issues, thereby creating a channel for greater visibility and more direct influence upon a variety of “publics,” i.e., fellow activists, scholars, students, decision-makers, social action groups, voters, and others. If the resolution requires letters to be sent, the Administrative Office distributes these to appropriate individuals or agencies.

Benefits of Membership
Perhaps no other professional organization is as committed to tackling contemporary social problems and redefining historical social facts as the SSSP. Our community of activist scholars places a priority on supporting not only emerging scholarship, but on supporting graduate students and junior scholars. For many respected senior scholars, SSSP was the first organization that actively supported their work by inviting them into a dynamic community of individuals dedicated to activist scholarship. Membership provides access to this welcoming community of individuals who do rigorous, groundbreaking social research. Through our annual meetings and our highly regarded journal, Social Problems, SSSP has shared new knowledge and developed myriad working partnerships and professional friendships for over 60 years. Please consider joining us in this worthwhile endeavor by becoming a member or renewing your membership today! http://www.sssp1.org/membershippromo/

Global Agenda for Social Justice
The Global Agenda for Social Justice provides accessible insights into some of the world’s most pressing social problems and proposes international public policy responses to those problems. Written by a highly respected team of authors brought together by the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP), chapters examine topics such as criminal justice, media concerns, environmental problems, economic problems, and issues concerning sexualities and gender. They offer recommendations for action by governing officials, policy makers, and the public around key issues of social justice. It will be of interest to scholars, practitioners, advocates, and students interested in public sociology, the study of social problems and the pursuit of social justice.
