SSSP CONFERENCE MENTORSHIP CONNECTION
Volunteer to serve as a meeting mentor or request to be matched with a meeting mentor
Deadline: June 30, 2026
The SSSP Conference Mentorship Connection is designed to facilitate interaction between new members or graduate students and veterans at the annual meeting. Meeting mentors provide valuable knowledge about SSSP and annual meeting activities as well as insights into their own experiences as scholar activists.
- Have you been involved in SSSP in a meaningful way?
- Do you have an hour of time to talk to a new member during the annual meeting?
- Being a meeting mentor is fun, doesn’t require much time, and allows you to welcome a less seasoned member to the Society.
It is recommended that pairs communicate prior to or early in the meeting, so mentees can get the most out of this program. Although this mentoring program is not designed to be a long-term commitment, the conversations and connections made through the program have lasting effects for both meeting mentors and mentees.
To become a meeting mentor, complete the mentor application form.
To become a meeting mentee, complete the mentee application form.
Eligibility: All participants must be current SSSP members. If you are not yet a member, please join or renew your membership. Participants are also expected to adhere to the SSSP’s Anti-Harassment Policy.
Important Considerations for Conference Mentoring:
- While we aim to thoughtfully match mentors and mentees, differences in availability, expertise, or experience may mean perfect alignment isn’t always possible within the limited timeframe of the conference.
- We encourage mentors and mentees to clearly communicate expectations, goals, and availability—ideally before or during your first meeting at the event.
- Mentors: Thank you for generously volunteering your time. If your availability or attendance for the conference has changed since applying, please let us know as soon as possible so we can adjust if needed.
- If you have any concerns or need support during the conference, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to support you.
- Our committee will do our best to resolve any questions or concerns in a timely, mutual, and respectful way.
