Meet 15 Women Leading the Fight Against Climate Change
Climate change has become a gendered issue, and a correlation has been shown between environment and gender. Deforestation, air pollution, drought, food insecurity, and other environmental degradation stronger affect women than men. In the Global South, women are responsible for eighty percent of all food production, almost all water and firewood collection in households, and suffer more from food insecurity, poverty, and environmental pollution. The SSSP praises the supportive voice of Time magazine to women's leadership in climate change.

Welcome to Chicago!
From August 4-7, 2021, SSSP will convene its annual meeting—virtually—due to the lingering impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we will honor the original conference venue of Chicago, IL by integrating live and recorded sessions, presentations about the city’s legendary political struggles, cultural landmarks, and revolutionary achievements. While Chicago is now the third largest city in the United States, it remains a microcosm of the nation’s history beginning with indigenous resistance to land theft and genocide all the way to current movements against fascism and white nationalism. SSSP: Takes Action! Laurentian University Letter (5-24-21)
The Society for the Study of Social Problems [SSSP] is an international professional organization of social scientists who believe our teaching, research, and publication should aid society in the pursuit of a better, more humane world. We are particularly keen to track and act on changes within our own institutions of higher education and do what we can to resist the degradation of our craft and our profession. We have followed the tragedy occurring at Laurentian University and feel the necessity not only to express our outrage at the undemocratic processes used to decimate the institution’s mission but also to bear witness at the resulting human misery it has caused for faculty, staff and students.
We ask that all public officials take immediate steps to reduce the suffering and insecurity caused by these actions while also adopting longer range plans to restore Canada’s commitment to public education, democracy, and a society based on human rights, dignity, and well-being.
