Accepting Applications – 2026 Racial/Ethnic Minority Graduate Fellowship
Online applications for the Racial/Ethnic Minority Graduate Fellowship must be received in their entirety no later than February 1. Two $15,000 fellowships are available to persons identified as either Arab or Middle Eastern or North African, Asian or Asian-American, Black or African American, Latine or Hispanic, Native American or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and undocumented students from one of the aforementioned groups, accepted into an accredited doctoral program in any one of the social and/or behavioral sciences so as to expand their perspectives in the pursuit and investigations into social problems.

Hood Social Action Award, and Travel Fund Awards.

This year’s Membership & Outreach Committee is chaired by me—Rin Ferraro, who has been a member of SSSP since 2020! Don’t forget to submit a paper this month for the annual meeting! (Deadline is January 31st).
Also, don’t forget to check out SSSP member Erika Houston Brown’s 2025 Featured Abstract from her conference paper “Insecure: An Autoethnographic Study of Financial Insecurity and Mental Health Issues in Graduate Students.”

Accepting Nominations – 2026 Lee Founders Award
Nominations are open for the 2026 Lee Founders Award. This award is made in recognition of significant lifetime achievements demonstrating a devotion to the ideals of the founders of the Society and especially to the humanist tradition of Alfred McClung Lee and Elizabeth Briant Lee. Deadline: February 20, 2026.

Call for Applications: Editor of Social Problems
The Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) is seeking applications for the position of Editor of Social Problems, beginning mid-year 2027. Editorial teams are welcome to apply.
The Editor will oversee peer review, prepare four annual issues, and promote the journal for Volumes 75-77 (2028-2030). Applicants must be SSSP members and demonstrate strong scholarly, editorial, and organizational experience. A familiarity with and commitment to Social Problems and the SSSP are essential.

Call for Abstracts – SSSP Virtual Poster Mini-Conference
The Program Committee is pleased to announce our first Virtual Poster Mini-Conference, to be held March 26-27, 2026. As a member benefit, all participants—including presenters and attendees—are expected to be 2026 members and register. Submissions are open through February 15, 2026.
Extended abstracts should be 200–500 words and include:
- Poster title
- Research methodology (as applicable)
- Citation list
- A brief description of the study and findings
Works in progress are welcome!
